Lilac
A diary scrap, found by a wizard of pewter.
A sonnet, it seems (else I need a tutor)
A triptych on canvas, found by one Mr. Hyde
Oil on sailcloths, washed in with the tide…
A triptych, on sailcloth, washed upon the shores of an island near R’lyeh. Found and donated to The MOLLUSC Department by one Mr. Edward Hyde.
Lilac
The place was dark, dusty, and to time lost,
In tangles of old tunnels 'neath debris,
Reeking of strange things brought in from the sea,
And with queer curls of fog that west winds tossed.
Decrepit icy caverns laced with frost,
But still I forged ahead feverishly,
Til lilac letters 'pon dark doors embossed:
“HERE LIES THE MISKATONIC LIBRARY".
My heart near burst — no scholar’s drunken dream,
No hoax of scribes in delirium wrought!
Here lay the truth, within bright lantern’s beam,
The fabled vault where lost knowledge is sought.
My mind hummed bright with fascination's spark,
But flesh, exhausted, plunged into the dark.
